A week with Casinacho Games
I didn't expect to write much about Casinacho Games. It's a small, unassuming casual app, the sort of thing that usually gets a quick glance and a shrug. But it stayed on my test phone all week, and that's a better review than any paragraph.
The appeal is in the loop. Casinacho Games is a set of short mini-games, each one a tap-and-swipe affair that starts in a second and ends before you get bored. On the train, in a queue, waiting for a video call to connect, it filled the gaps perfectly.
The thing I kept noticing is how calm it is about being offline. No reconnect spinner, no 'please check your connection' popup. Progress saves right on the device, so I could kill the app mid-round and come back to exactly where I was.
If you want depth, this isn't it, and the app is honest about that. But as a pocket-sized thing to keep around, it does its one job cleanly. I'd rather play five tidy minutes of this than wrestle with a bloated game that won't even open without a signal.
My small advice: skip the sound. The haptics do more for the feel than the audio does, and it plays just as well on mute during a meeting you're probably not supposed to be gaming in.
